What Is DirectQuery for Power BI Datasets?
DirectQuery lets you connect live to a Power BI dataset or Analysis Services model. You can then add other data sources like SQL Server or Excel to the same report.
This is called a composite model. You can build your own calculations, create relationships, and extend existing datasets.

This allows you to combine local and remote data in one model.
