Basic Setup of Sync Slicers in Power BI 

Let’s start with a basic setup. Imagine you have a report with two pages:

  1. Page 1: Contains a slicer for category names.
  2. Page 2: Contains a similar slicer but not yet linked to the first one.

When you select a category on Page 1, it filters the visuals accordingly. However, the same selection does not reflect on Page 2 unless you sync the slicers.

To sync the slicers, follow these steps:

  1. Copy the slicer visual from Page 1.
  2. Paste it onto Page 2.
  3. A prompt will appear asking if you want to sync the slicers. Click “Sync.”

Now, any selection made on one page will automatically reflect on the other.

Power BI provides advanced controls for slicer syncing. To access these settings, go to the “View” panel and select “Sync Slicers.” Here, you can see the pages and slicers available for syncing. The main options include:

  2. Visibility: Controls whether the slicer is visible on specific pages. Hidden slicers still apply their filters even if they are not visible.

Sync Slicers automatically create group names to manage syncing. Slicers within the same group will sync together. You can change group names to customize which slicers sync with each other.

Additionally, you can decide whether field changes in one slicer should apply to all synced slicers. For instance, if you change the field from “Category” to “Product” on one slicer, this change will reflect on all synced slicers if the option is enabled.

Another useful feature is syncing filter changes. When you apply a filter to a slicer (e.g., limiting selections to “Beverages”), this filter can sync across all slicers. Disabling this option will prevent filters from syncing, allowing for more customized filtering on individual pages.
